What would you do if you became a ghost for a day? American singer-songwriter Rich Anthony has a few interesting ideas in his latest single, If I Were a Ghost. Rather than turning to the usual spooky imagery associated with ghosts, Anthony delivers an amusing folk rock number that celebrates the possibilities of the afterlife.

The track has a refreshing simplicity to it. The acoustic guitar establishes an upbeat rhythm, while the occasional whistling adds a rather charming warm touch to the composition. Anthony’s vocals fit comfortably into the arrangement, carrying the narrative without overwhelming the instrumentation. There’s something pleasantly familiar about the sound, reminiscent of traditional folk songwriting where an engaging story matters just as much as the melody. Nothing feels particularly complicated, and that’s precisely what makes the song enjoyable.
The lyrics are perhaps the most entertaining aspect of the track. Anthony imagines a world where physical limitations no longer exist, allowing him to travel freely, explore extraordinary places and enjoy adventures that would otherwise be impossible. It’s a wonderfully absurd premise, but one that also raises an interesting question about what remains of us after death.
What I particularly enjoyed about If I Were a Ghost is its lighthearted approach to a subject that usually inspires fear or sadness. Anthony doesn’t attempt to offer profound answers about mortality. Instead, he invites listeners to entertain the possibilities with a smile.
A delightful little folk rock tune, I must say!
