Born and bred in rock, Aldís Fjóla draws inspiration from iconic 90s bands like Skunk Anansie, Radiohead, and Cranberries, delving into the essence of a musical era that resonated with many. There is just something about music that has a dreamy, cinematic, ethereal quality to it– like it is meant to convey a greater meaning, a grander purpose than its chords and melodies and rhythms mean; and “Quiet The Storm” is one of those tracks. The gentle pianos in the intro lay down a gentle, intimate foundation for the vocals to kick in, as they float into the stream, as it builds canvasses; and as the strings make their unassuming entry, there is a certain softness to the production and soundstage that immediately had me in the feels.

The vocals are the star of the show here, with the performance from Aldis maintaining a beautiful, intricate flow through the song, like it is one with the musical theme– not once losing coherence with the picture that the rest of the ensemble paints for us, and that, I think, is an absolutely marvellous thing. All of the various elements of the song work together and come together to create something rather very special– beyond music, this track is an experience for one to go through for themselves, for that is how I feel one would truly appreciate the qualities this song has to offer.
