‘Play on Venus (Live) Album’ by Lí-Lí Octave is a live recording of the singer’s lively, soulful performance at Jazz n’ Dine 2024. The ten original songs are a take on the female perspective, a subjective glimpse into a woman’s daily experiences.
The songs on the recording are sultry, sensual, bright and empowering, with spoken interludes between songs catching moments of audience interaction. These moments seem to add bursts of life to the songs, allowing listeners to catch a glimpse into what being at a Lí-Lí Octave show is like.

‘Play on Venus (Live)’: The Album
‘Wait (For Your Love)’-‘‘Struggling’
The album begins on a calm, sensual note, with ‘Wait (For Your Love)’ capturing a wistful take on a relationship that seems to have run its course. Its followed up by a sultry, slow number ‘Lay It Down’. In the live version, the song is a sensual dedication to the couples in the audience, with cheeky interludes that are warm, playful and immersive.
‘Out of Place’ introduces this bright sense of empowerment to album’s soundscape, moving from wistful and sensual to a powerful sense of realisation. A potent one that spells out the state of a loving relationship between “…two misplaced people…”.
‘You Scared’ begins with an explosive, sassy intro, that breaks down into something quiet and deliberate. Its a story, told in three parts with a cheeky twist ending that adds to this warm layer of immersion that sounds addictive.
‘Struggling’ is a slow, looping inner dialogue that brings back that bright sense of empowerment from ‘Out of Place’. There’s a back and forth between the backing vocal and the main, that highlights the mood of this inner dialogue. It builds into something passionate and moving as it goes on.

‘Mind Your Gd Business’ is on takes on the same mood as ‘Get off Me’. It does this by beginning with the latter’s last line, “…you keep weighing on me…”. Its push back, telling it audience and listeners to “…mind your gosh darn business…”.
