Tracy Perry Jr launched Perry Project on Myspace in 2007 while he was based in Seattle, using it as a way to meet musicians and build a group. As he looked for others to collaborate with, he kept working on his own, grabbing his affordable electric guitar and writing songs independently. That time spent writing became a real passion for him. Eventually, Perry Project evolved from something aimed at forming a full band into more of a solo acoustic setup, with occasional guest musicians joining him during live performances.
Perry Project is back with a new album, “Animals That Trusted You.” It starts with the beautiful, folksy alt-rock track “Callous.” The song welcomes you with atmospheric vocal work and slow builds where you can feel the promise of a beautiful journey ahead. As it progresses, the vocals become so passionate, effortless, and full of depth. It’s honestly a great start.

“Nonsense Just Feels So Wrong” feels like a minimalistic masterpiece. The dual interplay is delicate and precise, with mellifluous, no-rush energy that makes the song extremely easy on the ears. There’s also a slow, groovy momentum underneath it all, which keeps it gorgeous rather than static.
“Impoverished Shakedown” dives into spiritual searching, inner conflict, uncertainty, and the struggle to find truth in an unpredictable world. The lyrics are abstract and symbolic, but the center is clear: a person wrestling with doubt while searching for meaning and hope. The line “Seek out the Lord in your heart” points inward for spiritual guidance instead of relying on external answers and faith as something deeply internal and personal. It’s an emotional and spiritual journey through uncertainty, personal fears, and the search for hope when the future feels unclear.

Finally, “Wrap Around” is another melodic gem that feels like a fresh breeze. It is gentle, intimate, and comforting. The guitar riffs are absolutely beautiful, and the whole song carries an introspective aura. The theme is heartbreak, emotional vulnerability, and coping with an unexpected loss. The lyrics show someone trying to process a sudden departure from a person who once brought warmth and happiness. The repeated phrase “Without Warning” underlines the shock of being left behind, while the memories remain lingering.
