‘Mountains’ by The Gerry Farrow Band is a rock song with familiar folk elements that gives the track this sense of warmth. The song’s lyrics seem to move through this reflective cascade, moving through spirals of thoughts with a familiar, almost 80’s rhythm.

‘Mountains’: Quiet Realisations
‘Mountains’ reflects on quiet moments of clarity that seem to come with age. It seems to perceive things that most others can’t, giving space for those moments while keeping them hidden.
“…Sometimes I see mountains, but they’re not there…”.
The song feels like its going through the motions in this almost familiar cascade. Guitars and percussion reminiscient of a Dire Straits song holds in its rhythms this familiar warmth.
The lyrics in ‘Mountains’ on the other hand, seem to juxtapose this warmth with this laid-back, matter-of-fact sort of delivery. The lines seem to point out the unseen in plain sight, giving these scenes a space to exist.
This while asking us all to question everything that seems obvious within a space.
“…Believe what you’re told, they’re for the young not the old…
…Best believe that I don’t know…”.
‘Mountains’ feels contradictory in constant motion. Familiar sounds compound with unfamiliar emotions, creating this almost nullifying effect that makes every element feel a bit more digestible. The soundscape and lyrics aren’t so much reduced down as they are flattened to illustrate those moments when things stop seeming as they are.
‘Mountains’ by The Gerry Farrow Band introduces moments of existential realisation with familiar, warm tones. This seemingly makes these existential questions feel more palatable in the listeners grasp.
