Dax isn’t one to shy away from wearing his heart on his sleeve when it comes to his lyricism, and “Lonely Dirt Road” is no exception — and welcomely so; from the start of the track, Dax starts telling a compelling story that delves into themes of introspection, struggle, and finding peace through faith. The lyrical themes are uplifting, and Dax’s delivery and singing are deeply emotive. This is supported excellently by the instrumental in the background; the production is poignant, deep, and strikes just the right chords with the deep pianos, the distant, moody synths, and the steady pulse of the percussion.

“Lonely Dirt Road” also witnesses Dax adopting a newer kind of flow — while we’ve known him to be the hardcore rhyming artist that juggles syllables around like they’re circus balls, this time, he adopts a deeply personal, sung tone that’s reminiscent of Eminem’s Mockingbird — I mean that as a compliment, mind you; the storytelling, the poignant storytelling and the gentleness in the production bring a host of emotions that are sure to hit close to home.
As is the staple with his tracks, “Lonely Dirt Road” is an excellently mixed affair; with vast, expansive atmosphere and tasteful use of space in the mix, this track strikes the sonic spectrum with much aplomb. The energy remains focused front and center, but there’s much to appreciate about the layering in the production that reaches into the farthest corners of the field, keeping things wide and engaging from start to finish.
