At the tender age of 16, US-based singer and songwriter Alicia Daydreams brings the kind of talent that would put a lot of older people to shame — with multiple successful releases under her belt, she’s poised and making moves faster than ever with her latest single, “Knock On My Door” — keep reading for my thoughts!
Come the start of the song, and the first thing that strikes you is the sedate, downtempo drumming that’s complimented rather well by the bell-like, soft synths in the background, setting the stage for Alicia’s vocals to take over; and when they do, she adopts a gentle, engaging vocal style that sits rather nicely with the track. As she slides up and down the registers with excellent control, the song turns into a beautifully painted canvas, and Alicia doesn’t spare efforts to make the listen better; to much success, I’ll say, with her vocal harmonies that find themselves tight in the mix, and the gentle rise in energy come the chorus — and the even gentler release into the verses.

The production adopts a beautifully minimalistic sound that maximises the use of each of the few elements of the song; now, let that not mislead you, the processing and the staging is more than good enough for a full-bodied, crisp and clear sound. From the control and the movement in the basses, to the imaging, the mix understands the assignment — and executes it flawlessly. Wrap this in a well-glued master, and you have a rewarding listen.
