‘Indian Summer’ by Spouses is a Feel Good Indie-Folk Track that Makes for Easy Listening

‘Indian Summer’ by Spouses is a feel good indie-folk track with characterised by bright guitars. Its lyrics seem to describe coming-of-age experiences that build and build before settling into acceptance.

The song’s soundscape is bright and loud, highlighting a sense of impermanence and growth. Bright, layered acoustic guitars and consistent percussion builds into a loud cacophony of electric guitars and sound. This underlines a theme of control, escape and making sense of life as you become aware of it.

‘Indian Summer’: Escape & Control

‘Indian Summer’ is bright and torrent, with lines in its refrain seemingly begging for some clarity and an escape from things that don’t make sense.

“…All I want is an Indian summer,

And something that’s in my control…”.

The narrator of ‘Indian Summer’ is lost, trying to make sense of what to do and where they’re going.

These lines from the second verse seems to highlight this:

“…I want to be your friend,

I can if you show me how…”.

Its soundscape’s build highlights this as the song progresses. The song’s dynamic instrumentation giving the track an almost detached sense of mood, that expands towards the song’s last chorus. Loud and almost out of control.

The sound settles after this, moving towards accepting all the complexity it seems to introduce. Loud to quiet, it repeats the lines from its refrain with a finality that allows for something within the soundscape’s emotional core to settle.

‘Indian Summer’ alternative indie-folk track by Spouses captures emotions that seem complex, loud and spiralling out of control on the surface. But those feelings seem to settle when confronted. Its bright loudness and vibe-y melody make for feel-good, easy listening.
