Get Retro Rocked with Bonneville’s ‘Flying Machine’

Bonneville is a Southern Retro Soul Band with a sound so classic and timeless that you’d think you woke up in the 50s/60s. They revive the sound so well, with authentic style and effortless charisma. And of course, it has that groove that you cannot forget in a hurry. The band comprises lead singer, Wes McGee, and guitarist, Jeff Hayashi. Both of them seem to have a language exchange, a rapport with the style. It has that distinct, passionate, and individualistic feel that gives it a freshness. In their latest release, ‘Flying Machine’, you’ll see some of their best work. The album is crafted with rich flavors of soul, R&B, and some funk even. Its sounds curve into each other and expand by the exploration of the vocals.

‘Boogeyman’ opens the album. As the guitar grooves match through a band of trumpets, the vocals open up that rhythm with a call to feel, with stories that make you travel back and thoughts that make you feel closer to yourself. It is a bright, luminous splash, so enjoyable and deeply musical. In ‘Undercover Woman’ and ‘Soul Slide’, we see more of that funk coming out, OG Black soul style with harmonies and a vocal liberty that just sets it all in.

With ‘The Chase’ the band breaks out the jazz. With psychedelics, blues, and an atmosphere of spontaneity, they embody the rhythm in the theme. Its urgency is portrayed with animated elements, theatrical visuals, and a melodic promiscuity that is so charming. In ‘Flying Machine’, you get to really indulge yourself in the vocal expression, supported creatively by the guitar flow and landscapic progression.

‘Can’t Stop the River’ and ‘Lady of the Tennessee’ both has a flowing rhythms, so effortlessly free in their bluesy expression. The guitar work is soft and expressive, crossing over valleys of emotion and then carrying into deep excavatory melodic detail.

With this collection, the band presents an authentic flow of retro soul, connecting it with a spectrum of jazz, blues, and funk in a way that is reminiscent of raw, emotional cultures. Each piece has its own journey, its special scenic features and views that serenades and smoothens the mind. It is such a pleasure to ride through it, frame by frame. Listen Now!
