The Roundabouts are a fiery, dynamic rock-and-roll band from The Netherlands that fill their songs with electric energy, thumping drums and infectious hooks— and their debut single, “Outta Your Mind” serves to be no less than that— keep reading for my thoughts!
Take the raw adrenaline of bands like AC/DC, Airbourne and Halestorm into a blender, and you start to see what I mean by the kind of energy that Roundabouts bring to the table— and right from the first bar, you know you’ve gotta strap your seatbelts in for the kind of ride this song will be— and as the vocals kick in with their grit and effortless high-register singing, “Outta Your Mind” is a punch at the start, in the middle, and remains one right till the very finish.

The vocals on this song deserve the special limelight for their energy, and more importantly, their control and the melodic songwriting as a whole. It is choicely done, nicely executed, and nicely carries forward the idea of being inspired by rock and roll, a 1970s sound reimagined and evolved for us twenty-first-century listeners. There is poise in the songwriting, and there is power in the vocals, and the addition of the harmony layers at tasteful places only adds to the chemistry and charisma of this song.
The rest of the ensemble does not at all lag behind, either, with the screaming guitars and the basses and the rhythm section playing a close dalliance with the vocals and the leads; and when you have a song that starts off with a solo guitar part, it’s hard to doubt the energy and the atmosphere that Roundabouts have created; for its energy grabs you in a chokehold, and doesn’t let you go as long as you have the song looped on your screen; and indeed, much after that.
The mixing and mastering are great, too, with a clinical balance between the loud and the quiet parts of the song, and excellent control in the mids, which is where a majority of instruments lie. Overall, “Outta Your Mid” by the Roundabouts is a lot of things happening just right at just the right times— and a rewarding listen is what you get as a result. Check out the track here!
