Love Ghost have skyrocketed to popularity since I reviewed their album Can’t Stop. People seem to love the hip-hop sensibilities blending with the hard rock hybridism. Their new single is called Tell Me When, and it’s all bit Love Ghost as you would expect.
Starting with their now popularized approach of smooth, slow intros, Love Ghost brings in the power with a gradual shift in their sound. Tell Me When is a song by a band that merges together via crossroads, yet wants to bring everything on their journey. The switch to complete live instrument mania is imminent and yet a surprise as the chorus comes in. It is a melodic longing with great drumming and textural instruments that pour out like a waterfall.
I would like to take a moment to track Love Ghost’s progress. It’s a silly thing to do, but I’ve been listening to them for a long time. It started with Wolfsbane, where they dissolved the boundaries between hip-hop and rock done by many others before, but finding their own voice. Over time, I heard a few more singles and their full bloom EP. Their musicality has improved multifold, with enough space for improvisational creativity.
