Victoria Dodson, a native of southern West Virginia, has released a two-track EP called “Homesick“. The songs’ strongest point is essentially the writing. It has such profound meaning and symbolism that it truly provides us plenty of incentives to choose and want to stay near. The arrangements are also given a lot of thought in this composition. The tunes have so many delightful surprises in terms of instrumentation that the listening experience is becomes unforgettable.
The title song “Homesick” is the opening tune on the album, and it’s a lovely song in which Victoria Dodson delicately expresses her love for the comfort and secure place she found in the relation. She describes why she starts to feel a vacuum once she goes away from the relationship in such a decent, caring and compassionate way. Victoria Dodson’s whispering sweet vocal performance grips you, and the thrilling fusion in the instrumentation sets the song different from current trends. We are presented to an organic and seamless blend of Sitar, Sarod, and Guitars. Another aspect that effectively creates and intensifies the atmosphere is the vocal harmonies. Drums keep it calm, like a sprinkle of salt, keeping us interested with the rhythm pattern. The composition and subsequently the arrangements are both really well-thought-out.
I was genuinely enthralled even by the title of the following song, “Opaline,” which immediately conjured up visual details of the meaning. The song is, as predicted, absolutely bright, vibrant, and delightful, and it definitely sets the tone with positive pleasant vibes. Again, the writing is enthralling, drawing parallels and comparisons from what Opaline represents. The deep tie in the relationship is effectively represented in the writing, and as we listen to Victoria Dodson’s serene vocal rendition, the composition gets more intimate. The chord progression in the song also captivated me; it’s basic yet effective. The guitars and E. Piano add a lot to the ambiance, and the clever use of reverb sounds fantastic. We get to a pretty strong counter melody on the organ as the song proceeds. The music has a really calming influence on us and also gives out a really happy feeling.
