Pop music keeps evolving with time and innovation, and artists keep working to find their sound despite countless sleepless nights and struggles. India-based singer-songwriters, and brothers, Sparsh and Sémwal, have been creating music for a while now, and their journey so far has been undoubtedly worthwhile. On their latest single, “Deja Vu”, they have captured the feelings of wistfulness and nostalgia that are inherent in relationships through an eclectic mix of sounds both fresh and familiar.
The track begins with Sparsh’s smooth vocals accompanied by a melancholic guitar progression and an engaging beat. Along with thick basslines and colorful synthesizers, “Deja Vu”, right from the start, seems to be inspired by indie-pop artists such as Lauv and Jeremy Zucker. The lyrics explore moments in life when the mind wanders and reminisces about the past, creating a mirage that ends up messing with your head. – “I walked two steps and I guessed that you passed me by / All I see around is you, could this one be true? I see a girl that looks just like you, it’s just another Deja Vu”.
A powerful, bass-driven chorus, laced with lush harmonies and catchy melodies makes the track more vibrant and colorful. Semwal’s vocals are heard in the second verse, and his delivery feels natural and a bit playful as well. It’s great how the singers’ voices complement each other to create a fuller sound that keeps the listener hooked and eager to hear more. In addition, a dramatic bridge section distinguishes “Deja Vu” from the common pop-song arrangements heard today, making the track more appealing and exciting.
Since their first collaborative project, “Through These Years”, which was well-received by fans all around, the duo has worked non-stop to create a signature sound that’s attractive and resonates with listeners of many genres. “Deja Vu” is another masterful track added to their discography and I’m already eager to hear what more the brothers have in store for their fans!
