Samantha Sharpe – The Thrill of the Chase | Palpitating

In her latest track, ‘The Thrill of the Chase,’ Samantha Sharpe tackles a very intimate and intense subject. The song’s topic is quite contemporary and something that most of us have experienced at some point in our lives. We vividly recall the thrills, anxieties, and exhilaration that were a part of that connection. The baseline accurately portrays the rate at which our hearts race in those circumstances, and the lyrics ensure that this song will immediately connect with listeners.

Samantha Sharpe, a Melbourne-based singer/songwriter, has already generated a lot of talk with her earlier tracks, and her EP ‘Gilded Cage’ has made the appropriate kind of noises. The tracks were well-received and well-received by a wide range of listeners. The songs are quite relatable, which may explain why they appeal to a wide range of listeners. ‘The Thrill of the Chase’, the most recent release, may even prove to be crucial in moving the voyage ahead. The songwriting, in particular, appears to be really promising and something that will undoubtedly strengthen with experience.

The song begins with a strong beat and bass, accompanied by gentle guitar strumming that complements the rhythm perfectly. The baseline is something that attracted my attention as soon as the powerful vocal performance emerged. It’s basic, yet it creates the proper atmosphere in the context of the song. The guitar strumming layer increases the vibe and spotlights the correct portion as the song goes to the chorus. The vocal delivery is really dynamic, and it is delivered with a lot of enthusiasm. The music easily transitions to the bridge, which gives the listeners a chance to pause and reflect. The structure as a whole is free of distractions, and the transitions in particular are critical to the arrangement’s perfect flow. I had a great time listening to the song.

We also had an interview with Samantha Sharpe, in which she talks about her experience creating the song as well as her musical inspirations and upcoming releases.

  • Your song is about a life event that many of us have had. How did you come up with the idea for a song about such an intense emotional experience?

“It was honestly so out of the blue – I was feeling quite frustrated and wanted to get the feelings out and onto paper as a sort of journalling, and as I was writing these emotions and thoughts out it took on a different quality – not so much a “journal” to get my frustration out, but verses, and choruses. When I got to the middle of the song, this intense emotional bridge took over and became a sort of mantra to myself not to wait around anymore, and to believe and trust myself.”

  • There is a steady baseline that accurately depicts the pulse at those precise moments. So, how did you go about putting the arrangement together? How did your thought pattern go?

“I had the cadence of the words down quite quickly as I was writing it out, tapping along with the beat in my mind as I made a rough demo on my laptop. I sent that to my producer so he had the idea down for what I wanted, and when adding in that pulse we actually decided on a synth bass, rather than recording an actual bass. It gave it that urgent sort of timbre, every beat being quite rapid. There was a lot of experimentation to get that perfect tone and sound for it, but when we landed on the right one, it was very clear.”

  • What was your process towards finishing the song? Any roadblocks or funny tales you’d want to share?

“Actually getting the song to the studio was a struggle in itself – the city I live in was plunged back into a covid-lockdown right before I was set to record, and when it reopened I was actually unwell. I was just getting my voice back after laryngitis when it was time to record the vocals, so it was almost a miracle to get some of the notes I had written in there for myself.. at one point I locked myself in the vocal booth, determined to get it right and not to come out of there until I did. I think my determination to get the song out into the world pulled it all together. I’m so proud of this song.”

  • Which artists or musicians have had the most influence on you?

“I’m a big fan of powerhouse vocalists like P!nk and Lady Gaga, but more recently when I’ve been writing lyrics I’ve been quite influenced by Taylor Swift. I love her wordplay, and the way she puts so much heart and emotion into her work. The fact that her words have connected with so many people is such a testament to her songwriting skill.”

  • What might fans anticipate from your next releases?

“Something a little different, again! My next track on the horizon is a much more moody pop song, written mostly using my piano. Big, big vocals, and that wordplay I love so much. I’m excited every time I release a song but I truly can’t wait to talk about the next one..!”
