No Lonesome-Strange How | A Strong Brew

I love to tune into indie artists on the road. They make the trip worthwhile, time go faster and a feeling like they’re explaining what you see. No Lonesome is one such artist I would love to hear more of. Their new single is called Strange How, and it is a road rarely taken for indie tunes.

With the sterile fingerpicking style and smooth transitions, No Lonesome uses some unusual chords. These sound like uncharted waters when they are heard, you would expect a major chord necklace to dominate the track. However, this artist creates that “wilderness in your background” sound, with simple additions to his songwriting. The slight snare marching through the sound holds the beat, while poetry is recited for this new love. Not the love you’ve just laid eyes on, someone you’ve obsessed over for a long time. It’s a surreal moment transcending personalities.

It is almost a cinematic expression, I would imagine Boyhood or any movie dealing with nostalgia using this well. The lone instrument accents and adds inflection to various parts of the song, with rare moments containing harmonies. That’s the fairy dust on that melodic vocal dynamic. Their previous single from this year, For Carlo is also a simple set of verses, with the folksy stew brewing through the song.

Self professed metalhead, moderately well read. If the music has soul, it's whole to me. The fact that my bio could have ended on a rhyme and doesn't should tell you a lot about my personality.
