‘Bones’: Track-by-Track
‘Bones’ & ‘Crumbling’
The EP begins with the titular track, ‘Bones’ a groovy pop track that’s led by a quirky guitar melody. The soundscape on the song feels distant and almost matter of fact, while the singer holds this distance with a straight, almost apathetic deliver that feels honest and numb.
“…I didn’t move on so soon, just left those bones in my closet.
I didn’t get over you, just got tired of talking about it…”.
There’s a sense of loss that characterises this broken sense of momentum.
‘Crumbling’ on the other had is a powerful pop ballad that feels quieter and more emotionally charged than the last song. Moments of hurt and betrayal feel like they’re at the forefront, moving away from a space that feels distant and unfeeling.
“…You tore me down after building me up…”.
Though both songs hold a deep sense of hurt, one sounds a bit more explicit almost as though we’re moving in a linear progression. In the first song on ‘Bones’, our narrator admits to not really talking about their hurt, while the second holds a hidden space for that hurt and betrayal.

‘Lying’ & ‘Like Me’
‘Lying’ and ‘Like Me’ are the denoument, where these moments of detachment and emotion crumble down to reflect an mood that is frustrated, critical and self-deprecating. The last song, ‘Like Me’ in particular highlights this sense with a soundscape that sounds sad in a way that seems broken down.
‘Lying’ takes this bright apathy and dark emotion, blending them to create the next step in our dynamic progression. Now there’s more anger with the betrayal and pain, making itself known in a chill way. This vibe juxtaposes the song’s tone, frustration with a bit of detached energy.
The last song on the EP ‘Bones’, ‘Like Me’ is a quiet, acoustic track that feels like a cathartic, emotional release. The narrator is heartbrokena and bitter in a song that feels like a relief but in an almost self-deprecating way.
The heartbreak that’s been present throughout is most potent on this track, highlighting everything that’s seemingly broken about the narrator with a quiet resolution.
“…This is just like me,…
…To see something monochromatic,
while everyone else sees the crisp autumn leaves…
…Just like me, too energetic,…
…I try to be strong but I feel too weak…”.
‘Bones’ by Catlea is an emotionally charged EP that progresses from somewhere distant, to a space/moment where heartache and loneliness is recognised and expressed. The EP makes for a moving listen that feels pretty earned by the end.
