Imagine walking down the streets of your childhood. You’re sucking in the nostalgia like a sponge but something is missing. Some music! ‘Boulevard’ seems like the perfect music to be playing in the background. The beat, lyrical delivery everything about this track work together to paint you this picture while making you question a lot of decisions you made back in the day.
Juskolmeal! It took me a while to figure out that its not some Scandinavian name. Juskolmeal is nothing but ‘Jus cal me Al’. He’s an up-and-coming charismatic MC, producer and apparently a DJ as well. Juskolmeal has previously released two albums ‘Roosevelt High’ and ‘Heavy is the head’. Both of them have laid the foundation for his old school lyrical style with hard old school beats. Hes the kind of rapper that appeals to new as well as old school fans of hip hop.
‘Boulevard’ is a collaboration between Lakeith Rashad and Juskolmeal. Very unorthodox arrangement of the track which starts with the hook. What a nice change! Right after the hook Juskolmeal lays down some wisdom talking about how it was back in the day. This is a track about going back and seeing what decisions resulted in life being like it is today. What would be different if those decisions were different? All this is elaborately packaged into a poetic bar that Juskolmeal effortlessly drops with amazing lyrical clarity.
The main takeaways from this track are some very valuable words of advice. Old timers broke the game down for Juskolmeal and gave him a set of rules that gave him structure to become what he is today. It shows the character of Juskolmeal. He’s not just some run of the mill kid talking about money and gangs and killing but instead talks about things that actually matter. It’s a pleasant change to find someone who’s still doing such a good job on lyrical rap(a dying art in todays music industry).
