Skratch Street is a Brisbane-based music producer and turntablist known for his dynamic collaborations with industry heavyweights like MixMaster Mike and Qbert. With several sold-out albums, including the “MK ULTRAS” series, and a recent national tour with the Late Night Orchestra, he continues to push the boundaries of electronic and scratch music on his latest track, “FowlMouth” — keep reading for my thoughts!
Bringing an absolute stick of dynamite to the fore with the festive, uptempo energy from the very start of the track, Skratch Street brings in influences from all over the world, and layers his expert turntabling skills on top — not a scratch, this song nails it on every beat. The rapping in the track brought to you by MOCC and troupe only serves to make this an even more infectious, raging-catchy listen, and we’re here for the ride!

The instrumentation is the star of the show here — as Skratch Street seamlessly blends boom bap hip-hop with catchy guitar melodies and makes the floor rumble with the deep hitting kicks, and constantly introduces interest and pizzazz with his scratching on the vocals — from start to finish, this track is an explosion of energy, all while retaining a certain flair of polish, skill and execution — all making for a head-banging groovy listen of a hip-hop track.
The mix and master really also come into their own on “FowlMouth”, with stellar imaging and separation in the layers — the ad-libs stand out in all the right ways, and the focus remains on the bass in the centre, which, unsurprisingly, is excellently controlled. The sparkle is just right as the wide open stereo mix invites you in to start rapping alongside the main vocals, and it’s elegantly done, this lot. All in all, a true winner and a showcase of skill!
