“Deck The Halls”, by Super Saiyan Jay: Hip-hop, Christmas style

With the holiday season turning the corner at the moment, it’s time for some peaceful holiday music– or that’s what you’d think, until you check out “Deck The Halls”, by Super Saiyan Jay. The Florida-based rapper brings a twist on hip-hop, Christmas carol style. Keep reading for my thoughts!

It’s not often that one gets to check out a beat that is so familiar sounding with the jingles of the bells in the background, yet has the elements of power-packed hip-hop to go with it. All I can say is that on “Deck The Halls”, it makes for a distinctive combination that manages to radiate quite a lot of power, and panache; listening to it is oddly satisfying, in a way.

The instrumental having made itself distinctive enough, the rapping next impresses with its tight flow, detailed rhyming, as well as flawless interposition of the syllables with one another; it’s a straight-four flow for the most part, with a good number of switch-ups throughout the track that gets one jiving to the beat from the drop, all the way throughout the song.

All of this is tied together with a tight mix that assigns quite a bit of space to the vocals, making it sound spacey and well-blended. The pianos in the background serve as the melodic base for “Deck The Halls”, with some sampling work going on in the background, and overall, it’s quite an energetic listen.
