BC Roadz is a self-proclaimed Blues Rapper based in Houston, Texas. The extremely talented and undefinable artist (how ironic is this sentence?) has lived all across the United States. He has a rather unique backing in genres, mixing blues, hip hop, country, rock, electro and more. BC Roadz fills his music with relatable themes ranging from the struggle of living by the paycheck to substance use and more. While he comes up with his own lyrics and writes his own songs, BC is accompanied by his Cosmic Robotic Guru and producer, Doso Rubato.
His latest single, Comfort Blues is exactly what it says it is – comforting. It reminds me of the likes of Muddy Waters and B.B. King but with the added spice of BC Roadz. The groove, set by an acoustic guitar and minimal drum line, sets BC up for a pretty smooth flow. I won’t lie, I found the concept of Blues Rap rather funny, but after listening to Comfort Blues, I must admit that it is rather intriguing. The track does so well to incorporate elements from each of the previously named genres. At some point, the psychedelia really takes over and you’ll be able to tell. Moreover, Roadz has the uncanny ability to manoeuvre between genres like it is nobody’s business.
If you haven’t given much thought to Blues Rap, then there’s no one better to introduce you to the concept than BC Roadz. You’ll find yourself on a rather invigorating journey through various genres as you enjoy the score.
