Jake Juba – The Room | Electrofunky

Jake Juba (AKA Retro Kid) is a British, electronic music producer based in Denmark. Having worked with various vocal artists, Juba has created a wide array of electronic samples. Jake Juba uses electronic samples, breakbeat rhythms, wonky synths and lo-fi samples in order to create, what he calls, Melancholy Funk. With 22 tracks on SoundCloud, Juba is slowly making his way into the business.

The Room is Jake’s latest work of art. This track starts with a melancholic synth, which is met by funky drums and bass. Jake Juba kind of reminds me of Jack Stauber with his ability to create groovy electronic samples. The track has these various synth elements that come in, but the main melody is held by the bass line, giving the track a figured bass technique. The spacey interludes in between create a futuristic, foreign kind of sound. I love the little brass percussions in the track – they sound like trumpets, giving a sort of orchestral feeling. However, Jake Juba really stands out among other electronic-oriented artists like Gorillaz and Jack Stauber. His ability to create a soundscape and story with his music seems unmatched.

I can tell you that you’re in for a really good time when you listen to this track. It is in every sense of the word, Electrofunky. If you want to bring the club back home, this is the track for you. Don’t sleep on this marvellous work!

I listen to and make silly noises while analysing why people behave the way they do.
