Hailing from the West Midlands in Dudley, UK, Transmissions has just debuted their first single. Acoustic guitarist and songwriter, Joshua Joyner, cites this track as his favourite to have written. Additionally stating that it is all downhill from here. However, I find that hard to believe as there is always more music to hear! The four-piece band consists of the aforementioned Joshua Joyner, Tristan Apperley (Bass & Synth), Dominic Sanderson (Electric Guitar) and Daniel Ratcliffe (Drums). Joyner stated that “This tune is about the time there was an alien spacecraft flying above my garden.”
Light The Sky is a psychedelic track to say at the very least. Transmissions created a track that encompasses the feeling you may experience when you see a UFO. Each element is so dynamic in terms of harmonies as well as rhythm. The bass clearly stands out to me with these unusual melody lines that keep the song moving in a figured bass structure. As the song proceeds, you hear more spacey elements that could remind you of David Bowie, especially that acoustic guitar interlude. The electric guitar breakdown is one of the more interesting bits I’ve heard in recent music. Additionally, the vocals on this track stay in line with the unusual spacey vibe that Gilmour & Bowie have achieved. The drums on this track are pretty tight. The rhythm section is probably one of the most experimental I can think of right now.
Transmissions is probably one of the most experimental groups I’ve heard in a while. Moreover, I can’t shake how incredibly talented these lads are.
