The Kid and I is a four-piece Alternative Rock band based in London, United Kingdom. The band cites a wide array of influences ranging from Arcade Fire to Foo Fighters to Tyler, the Creator. Moreover, they also stated that their influences keep increasing with the more music they listen to. While they only formed in 2020, each of the members has had significant experience in the music scene. Additionally, they also play live gigs every now and then with their next one coming up in Exeter.
Their latest single, Fade Away, is an absolute joyride. The band describes it as featuring big riffs and a twisting dark pop melody, ‘Fade Away’ delves into the psyche of someone imbedded in self-destructive isolation. The song itself is rather grim and dark and touches much darker tones than usual. It’s an interesting one that focuses on a lot of mental anguish while taking The Kid and I towards a renaissance of sorts. Fade Away is an absolute headbanger that is not afraid to look into the face of anguish and mental torment. The chorus remains catchy as ever staying true to that original The Kid and I sound. However, I’m a huge fan of this new, dark tone that these lads have taken on.
Many bands go through transformations, but not many can pull it off quite as well as The Kid and I. I really enjoy this new track and it’s certainly a great intro to their 2022 music. If you haven’t caught these guys live yet, I really suggest you do.
