SamSeb Kierkegaard – Luna: Luna Moonlight | Gritty

SamSeb Kierkegaard is an Alternative Rock singer-songwriter based in the UK. His unique style of dark, emo, gothic rock stems from his influences. Namely, David Bowie, my bloody valentine, Soren Kierkegaard and Tim Burton. SamSeb keeps his music dreamy, emotional, quirky, and yet sophisticated. It is not often that we hear a musician with such varied tastes create such beautifully dark music. Having released three tracks so far, SamSeb Kierkegaard is slowly climbing the ranks. The philosophy graduate writes thoughtful, deep and meaningful lyrics that will absolutely astound you.

His latest release, Luna: Luna Moonlight is like a second part to his previous release, Luna: The Invisible Irony. By playing around with audio panning and dreamy melody lines, he’s able to achieve this dark, trippy sound that is the perfect amalgamation of all his influences. For some reason, I think his music would fit into the score of shows such as Breaking Bad and Euphoria. There is so much going on, and it is a lot to unpack in one sitting. Additionally, his music grows more and more on you as you listen to it, finding intricacies that you may not notice on the first or even fourth or fifth sitting.

I particularly love the almost spoken word-like bits that add to the gothic nature. Luna: Luna Moonlight also reminds me of Nine Inch Nails, specifically The Downward Spiral track of the album with the same name. Furthermore, listening to this track takes me back to my teenage angst years. It feels like such a great release of energy. Moreover, I find so much comfort in just knowing that this gritty, gothic, dreamy genre is not dead.
