Disconnectica is the solo project of Melbourne singer/songwriter Robert Webb. His music spans various genres within alternative rock, blending quirky songwriting similar to Bowie and the Beatles with the rock energy of the White Stripes and Red Hot Chili Peppers. Influenced by the eccentricity of Radiohead and Zappa, his sound is at times playful, at times dark, but always distinctive.
Disconnectica’s new single “Reveal” is the kind of epic ride you’ll want to strap in for. Clocking in at over 6 and a half minutes, it’s a dense but rewarding journey into eclectic soundscapes. The track eases in with haunting yet intricate riffs and evolving synths that shape-shift beautifully. When those unsettling vocals enter, casting their spell, you know you’re in for something unique.

Layers upon layers are peeled back as it progresses – keys gliding in to compliment the strange yet magnetic beats. Around the 2-minute mark, things take a cinematic turn that gave me chills before slamming into an abyssal drop.
“Share your darkest thoughts,” Disconnectica beckons ominously, reeling you further into the bizarre world they’ve crafted. Parts had me engrossed, while others seemed fit for a frenzied dance. Textures like glockenspiel and kazoo additions make it weirder, too, in the best way. You’ll want to listen in installments to catch every eerie detail hidden within.
