‘Close In October’ by Ginko Bugs is an Alternative Rock Track that is a Story of Resignation, Reluctant Acceptance & Heartache

‘Close In October’ by Ginko Bugs is a guitar-led alternative/indie rock track with lyrics that tells a story of reluctant acceptance and heartache. The song’s soundscape is anthemic, building to an emotional climax that feels satisfying, almost as though a weight has been lifted off of someone’s shoulders.

The song’s lyrics describe a relationship that doesn’t seem to be working anymore. There’s a sense that the narrator has been presented with a choice, to accept and let go or to ask the other to wait and hold on. Though, holding seems futile and the other person has already made up their mind.

‘Close In October’: How To Get Closer

‘Close In October’ begins with the line, “…when she leaves, it’s probably over…”, one that holds a sense of resignation and a begruding sense of acceptance. Something about the lines that follow feel like they tug at heartstrings, attempting to change a mind before the end of October comes close.

In these moments, the instrumentations builds to a sound that feels anthemic, with an emotional resolution that wants to be positive. Every layer built feels emotionally charged with the lyrics highlighting this sort of hybrid-optimism & brightness with trepidation.

“…I hope she stays till the end of October…”.

The second verse of ‘Close In October’ seems to subtly change perspective, moving from indirectly addressing the person to directly addressing them. This movement helps make the emotions feel more pronounced, adding to the quiet build that’s been intensifying.

“…You could wait a bit longer, while our feelings get stronger…”.

But both verses reflect a wish for things to remain as they have been, with a tone that pleads with the person to stay. The narrator hopes that “…we can stay as one, two, free as we were…”.

‘Close In October’ by Ginko Bugs uses its emotional build to anthemically highlight this sense of desperation almost, pleading for just a little more time to set things right. Its closing lines reflect this whirling strings that feel like a satisfying exhale.

“…That you will stay till the end of October,..

…Till we find our way.

In how to get a little bit closer,…

…How to get closer in October…”.
