Blessed Child Opera’s “I Will No Longer Be Here” Sounds Like a Goodbye You Can’t Quite Shake

Blessed Child Opera’s “I Will No Longer Be Here” blends dark folk, new wave and post-punk into a track that is dark and yet so very conforting.

Paolo Messere, the man behind the sound creates a soundscape that strikes a perfect balance between tension and release. The post-punk influence gives the song a slightly restless energy, while the folk elements like bagpipes gives it a more worldly vibe. You can also here Middle Eastern touches that teases the wider sonic world of the musician’s upcoming album “The Traveler Challenges Death.” The song gets heavier towards the end with rock textures adding colour to the sonic palette. The song starts sounding darker and esoteric around this time.

The song presents ideas about connection, independence and belief. Almost as if someone is trying to figure out how much of themselves they can give to other people without completely losing themselves in the process. Pretty relatable territory for anyone who has faced this kind of existential crisis.

Messere’s vocals are harmonically rich and powerful. They add to that sense of uncertainty. He keeps his delivery is close and expressive, letting the lyrics speak for themselves and establish the song’s identity.

It is dark, thoughtful and slightly strange in the best way, while still giving you enough of a groove to keep listening.
