Arashk Azizi Drops Meditative Journey in Instrumental EP – ‘Elegy Sonata’

Iranian composer Arashk Azizi, based in Estonia, crafts narrative-driven classical music that bridges mythology with modernity. His works, from program symphonies to innovative Piano Poems, draw inspiration from both Persian classics like “Shahnameh” and Western works such as Dante’s “Divine Comedy.” Influenced by Mahler, Stravinsky, and Adams, his compositions blend contemporary and romantic styles with emotional intensity. Beyond composing, Azizi produces music at Tunitemusic label, authors literature, and creates film scores, bringing his storytelling expertise to every artistic endeavor.

Arashk Azizi has released a new EP, “Elegy Sonata,” featuring four songs. “Epilogue” opens the EP with an ethereal, dreamlike quality that immediately establishes the collection’s contemplative tone. The gorgeous keyboard work creates a serene atmosphere that acts as a natural anxiety reliever. What makes this piece particularly effective is its ability to transport listeners into an introspective headspace – it’s the kind of composition that encourages closing your eyes and letting the music guide your thoughts. The immersive quality of the piece creates a truly beautiful listening experience.

“Lament” shifts the EP’s mood toward more somber territory, living up to its title with a deeply moving exploration of melancholy. The introduction of deeper tones, functioning as a rhythmic foundation, provides a steady, slow pulse that reinforces the piece’s serious nature. The composition demonstrates remarkable skill in drawing listeners into its emotional narrative, creating a powerful sense of connection to its sorrowful themes while maintaining musical accessibility.

“Remenant” delves deeper into vulnerability, capturing the helplessness one feels when facing profound loss. The composition brilliantly conveys the quiet questioning of universal unfairness without becoming overwhelmingly dark. It maintains a delicate balance between expressing grief and keeping listeners engaged in its narrative.

The EP concludes powerfully with “Tempest,” the most dynamic and intense track of the collection. It demonstrates Azizi’s compositional sophistication through its carefully crafted emotional shifts – from magical to angry, from furious to calm, and finally to dramatic conclusion. The piece mirrors its namesake, creating musical weather patterns that sweep listeners through various emotional states. The unexpected transition to calmness mid-track, representing the eye of the storm, before returning to its dramatic conclusion, creates a particularly compelling arc.

Throughout “Elegy Sonata,” released through Tunitemusic, Azizi demonstrates remarkable skill in using instrumental music to convey complex emotional narratives. The EP works both as individual pieces and as a cohesive whole, taking listeners through a complete emotional journey from dreamy contemplation to tumultuous resolution.
