French Dogs aren’t here to deliver polished AI rock. This is buzzing with that raw, thrilling candour that only an indie band of this passion can bring to the table. After winning over the hearts of several radio channels in London-they’re here with news we couldn’t be happier with. The long awaited release that means so much for a band. This is their debut self-titled EP.
Look, there’s something about their tone that’s crisp enough to go with an ale. Treasure is a fresh single, and has that chord progression that tunnels itself into your brain. These are tones and voicings from a band that set them apart, and French Dogs have quite the nib and ink. Their writing is retro, experienced from the bands and artists that might have inspired them. The song’s tone has that very familiar movement of Sympathy for the Devil by the Stones. When the verse section comes through, you can see how they’ve kept the rhythm going with that minimal percussion as well.
Transitioning to Modern Day Despair is quite a journey. Soft acoustic chord progressions show a lot of things. That promise like Oasis, heartfelt songwriting and most importantly, a dynamic talent to the whole band. Rather than plummet us with aggressive indie rock, they crack open the pub doors for a gust of cold November breeze. The solo and licks associated are minimal and ambient, almost leading you perfectly to the path where the verse will continue.

Let’s go back to high tempo joy, because we’re playing Toxic Alibi. An extremely fun and layered track, this shows you how a party track can be summoned from anywhere. Once again, it’s the catapult fast rhythm that makes you want to groove. There’s more flavour here than a punk track, and they keep the shifts almost seamless. French Dogs are on fire on this EP, giving us fervour and the halo that you’d want to hear from a young band with a dream.
Their single release comes in next. Unlucky in Love is white-hot, while having some of the best harmonics I’ve heard in rock for a long time. French Dogs don’t let it rest even for a moment after their heartfelt song Modern Day Despair. They know how to shape the EP, and they don’t give us a theme behind it. Perhaps the prevailing thought was-let’s rock, lads, shall we?
That’s the levity of the EP overall. It’s not a demo tape for them “to show their worth”. Yet, while enjoying themselves playing music, they discover and create quite the collection. The self-titled EP is just a humble chapter to an explosive set of twists and climaxes yet to come. Get to the pound and let loose a cracker, the French Dogs are taking over:

Self professed metalhead, moderately well read. If the music has soul, it's whole to me. The fact that my bio could have ended on a rhyme and doesn't should tell you a lot about my personality.
