Blueprint Tokyo craft mellow indie rock with their latest EP, “Blue”

Blueprint Tokyo have found the perfect intersection between indie rock and pop. It is not that they understand the melodies, but live them through the songs. In all this time, they have distilled a perfect formulation of music composition that cannot be replicated. With detail and attention to tone and delivery, their music has an amazing aura. This is their latest EP, Blue

Flowing through the abyss, with a compass

In their opening single, they reveal a lot of growth. Odysseus has heavenly synth pads with a bass dance that makes the song so much more enriching. Blueprint Tokyo also rely on the catchy rhythm, shifting pace and telling the story using time itself. At no point can you imagine a straight line being spoon-fed to you. The solo is a tasteful addendum to the very original and rewarding sound the band have come to. It is an evolution that has to be heard, and experienced.

You move to Only Hearts next. The tone is slower, and more mellow. The bass is warm and comforting, just like the lyrics. Keys echo with an omnipresent ambience, and carry the theme well. It is an exciting, rebellious departure from the energy of the previous song. Until the chorus comes in, thick and jam based tones come in. The rock is more highlighted here, and Blueprint Tokyo feel more at home everywhere now.

Closed Door Drama is the quiet whisper that becomes a thematic departure from their genre preferences. Blueprint Tokyo make a song which becomes their hallmark tale writing in a whole new direction. As you wait for the chorus to become a heavy explosion, soft vocals tear you away from expectation. Percussions are very innovative in the song, keeping your attention drawn to the rhythm changes that the song is subjected to.

Exploration, through the emotions

Mission Control is the penultimate song in the list. It is more of an indie rock core number-and a friendly touch to the kind of songs you associate the band with. It is an exciting, refreshing number. As it was released as a single earlier this year, you’re reminded of how different it sounds in the context of this album.

Although the core emotive nature of the EP remains to be a slight melancholy-Blueprint Tokyo know how to make it exciting. It is the style of band that has got addicted to making music for the pure joy it brings. It does the same for us as listeners.

When you lead to Transfer, you’re in an alt-rock phase. It is the trial by fire, but if the fire was something the band lit themselves. It is an incredibly grunge styled number, and very different from your predisposed assumption of their music style. The band comes together in spectacular, bold and experimental fashion for their latest EP Blue, and makes your pause worth the while. Self professed metalhead, moderately well read. If the music has soul, it's whole to me. The fact that my bio could have ended on a rhyme and doesn't should tell you a lot about my personality.
