Art Pop creates divergent soundscapes for your brain and soul with ‘HousecAt’

Art Pop might be the only artist to be a genre as well. With one EP and several singles under their belt since they began, this brother duo is here to make music that surprises them. Which, de facto, definitely surprises/inspires us. Music that the music nerds appreciate for the detail and listeners get down to for the vibe. This one is their debut album, called HousecAt.

Inspired by the likes of Daft Punk, LCD Soundsystem and wide-ranging artists like Radiohead and The Strokes, you can never quite know what this group is going to make. Art Pop revels in collecting experiences through melody, and the album opens with a rewind called sunrise 4 suckers. Though there is a tempo in this, it becomes a lesson on what the album might sound like in cut up pieces. Like Tame Impala’s new album, the party’s never over (and i feel alive right now) comes in.

Certain, creative drive

Like Casablancas’ voice and Daft Punk’s mixing, the aesthetic on this song is incredible. It soaks you in for a psychedelic ethos that charges for a catchy chorus. I hope you have your headphones handy, for the music Art Pop are able to construct are ambient enough to become your home for the week. The next single is in my blue house, reflecting deeper grooves and fun verse sections.

I loved how the mix is rich, yet allows the whole experience to be felt with minimal aspects. When harmonies or layered elements come in, it’s like seeing the night sky glittering with new celestial elements. The house then encounters flames, for the number after becomes a house on fire. This is far more spaced out and enthralling, vocals taking a lower register and amalgamating with the rhythm section for a swirling marmalade-like blend. Along with the tempo transition, it’s impressive to see how this project infuses very different sonic textures into a single song. It becomes more of an expression of the expression itself.

A rich sonic landscape

Art Pop takes this album as a book’s narrative, deep, layered and experimental with the sounds they choose. Other than certain percussions, I don’t think the duo will use these melodies or harmonies anywhere else. Songs like we r rebels have a much gentler aural canvas, bringing some powerful visuals all through abstraction. You reach closer to this blissful experience with a waiting room (kibbles N bits remix), enriching what is already quite a full-sounding theatre of melodies. Their music has no elements that copy each other, for they depict their personality through their music. Art Pop is what AI would never know, for this depth of personality comes from certain obsessions.

It’s the kind of obsession and passion that can lead to an album as rewarding as HousecAt to listen to:
