Christmas and New Year’s seem to have just gotten a whole lot better as people get ready for the very first time the officially authorized documentary about the legendary rock band. A long, exciting trailer ‘Becoming Led Zeppelin’ that was teased just released lots of unseen concert footage, rare archival, and a very rare interview of late drummer John Bonham.
Over the sound of “Whole Lotta Love,” the band members—Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, and John Paul Jones—reflect on their meteoric rise. A poignant word from Bonham in a newly unearthed interview closes the trailer: “The first time we played together, it was stunning. It was like a gift from heaven, wasn’t it?
This “hybrid docu-concert film” has been five years in the making and premiered at the Venice Film Festival in 2021. Rare footage from legendary performances, including Fillmore West (January 1969) and Texas Pop Festival (August 1969), are included. MacMahon and writer-producer Allison McGourty spent years scouring the globe for unseen material.

“We flew across the Atlantic countless times, searching attics and basements for rare footage,” McGourty shares. “Each piece was restored with custom techniques, making it look and sound as if it was created yesterday.”
