It was a night to remember for K-pop fans as the 2024 Billboard Music Awards (BBMAs) ended with three K-Pop acts, Stray Kids, Jung Kook, and Seventeen, emerging as winners in a few highly anticipated categories. Asserting their stance on the global map, K-pop icons cement their positions with the 2024 Billboard Music Awards.
Taking place on Thursday, the award show was led by Jungkook at the top of the K-pop categories, where he earned Top K-pop Album for his 2023 album Golden, and Top Global K-pop Song for the hit song, “Standing Next to You” on that same album. Although nominated in larger categories, such as Top Song Sales Artist and Top Selling Song, Jungkook left the event without further awards. Not in attendance due to completing military service, Jungkook missed this year’s show.
“I am deeply thankful to ARMY and everyone who has supported me,” — Jungkook said in a pre-recorded video message. “This award is for all of you.”
Stray Kids created history by winning the 2024 Billboard Music Awards for the second consecutive year. The group bagged the title of Top Global K-pop Artist after the previous year’s win of Top K-pop Album. While speaking in a heartfelt acceptance speech, member Bang Chan said, “We really want to say a big, huge thanks to ‘Stay’ [Stray Kids’ fandom] and the world… Without you guys, we wouldn’t be standing over here now on this stage receiving this meaningful award.”
Seventeen won the Top K-pop Touring Artist award, which is a testament to their incredible global touring achievement. Joshua of Seventeen thanked their loyal fanbase, Carat, while giving their acceptance speech: “This wouldn’t have been possible without our amazing fans. We try to make it up to you with good music and performances, but you always surprise us with even more love.”
