Törner Cryda - Cursed
Törner Cryda - Cursed

Törner Cryda’s debut single ‘Cursed’ revives a folk rock spirit

When you see the art work of “Cursed”, the debut single of Swedish rock band Törner Cryda, your senses immediately drift into the mood they’re going for. The band’s aesthetic leans into a rustic, 70s‑style folk‑rock aesthetic and earthy browns that blend into the forest. A mystical, neo‑pagan storyteller vibe. You’d be reminded of Fleetwood Mac and Led Zeppelin. The song also reminds me of the band Kansas, and of course, there’s a cool guitar solo!

The band which is from Lund in southern Sweden, play a retro, 70s-influenced rock that blends classic rock, progressive rock, psychedelia, and folk-tinged elements. Vocals are done by Emilia (rhythm guitars) and Einar (bass). Their debut single has both classic rock reverence and a distinctly modern imagination. This is the first single from the upcoming debut album ‘Knight in Pieces’, with two more singles more coming up. The band’s namesake is a 11th century knight from Västergötland province, whose most prominent city Gothenburg has given birth to some great bands.

A hard rock song with folk rock elements. The vocal layering here is quite well done. It has a memorable hook guitar riff. Across its four minute runtime, the track leans into a moody, mid-tempo groove. The guitars, keys, and rhythm section move with an unhurried confidence. The atmosphere does as much work as melody. The production is warm and spacious rather than relying on sheer volume or studio gloss. As a debut, it is notable for how assured it sounds. Törner Cryda uses familiar influences as a framework for a clear, cohesive identity. This seems to be the opening chapter of a larger, thoughtfully constructed body of work.
