Until They Burn Me might be an undertone commentary of this band. Cody Carlyle and Travis Jordan were in another band called The Dry Season, 30 years ago. Once you press play you can immediately get to know that they’re veterans. You have the information you need now. This is their second album after Mud Music-and they’ve gone deeper into what they love. This one is called A Carnival of Reveries.
Coming at a time where a lot of commercial and mass-produced music follows a single track, Until They Burn Me come out strong. It sounds like a couple of organic jam sessions played to perfection, decorated with that human element that makes you resonate with it. Dark & Deep has that country hum and soft percussion. You’re drawn into how the vocals wrap a story around you as you sit in silence. I love how the layers accent the progression, from harmonica parts to guitar frills and accents.
Setting a powerful tempo
To the Bone almost comes like a puppet show crafted just for you. There is a mystery to the lyrical parts, while the easy chord progressions will keep you in tested waters. I love the baritone that makes you strain to listen to the lyrics, rather than jamming them in your face as a requirement. Just when you wondered if this would be an acoustic set, there comes the alt-bluesy experience with Licorice & Lollipops. It’s a highlight track, something you’d like to long drive to while playing on full volume. Harmonies contrast the gritty delivery of the lyrics in the verse section.

Until They Burn Me are able to shine light on their narrative style as well-while giving their trusty genre presentations a twist. Another personal favourite becomes the cold, stark pacing of Night Passage of Painted Dog. As an instrumental, it creates a swirl of drama for the kind of songs you listened to, and a unique interlude. It fits like a perfect episode of Breaking Bad, a desert setting filling the horizon.
Weaving through tales
It should be noted how no song is rushed to make it your standard rock radio delivery. There is an important story to tell, and each song is able to do it with plenty of breathing space to get you into the intrinsic groove.

As you near the closing of the album, you’re treated to the very different Revealed to Him in the Wild. These are layers of lore so well crafted, each tune can be its own film paradise. Until They Burn Me have perfected compositions that show a glimpse not through genres, but visual and lived experiences that they didn’t have to necessarily witness. It is charged with purpose, and most importantly an extension of how much they love music. Here are your tickets to the carnival:

Self professed metalhead, moderately well read. If the music has soul, it's whole to me. The fact that my bio could have ended on a rhyme and doesn't should tell you a lot about my personality.
