Omnesia are that combo of a sunny day at the beach and a good cocktail. It’s every kind of high you should be experiencing, and the duo know how to bring it. To refresh your memory, Medella Kingston and guitarist/producer M2 are the project, diving freely into retro ravines and future pockets to bring some amazing music. Genres, trends and people don’t restrict their music. They’re bulletproof because they’re Future Vintage.
Let’s be honest, your music tastes are homogenous. Depending on your mood, the time of day and various factors of whether or not you pay for streaming services, your patterns change. Your dreams will Dangle in front of you. The opening single shows M2 on home ground, delivering some delectable riffs with perfect distortion, while Medella gives us a vocal experience with harmonies leading you to float away.
Funky essence
Though the opening track is funky, you would never see Broken Love come in next. It contrasts with a tune that resembles what The Cure would compose. It is that retro aesthetic you chase desperately, knowing that no artist now will be able to create something so vivid. That’s where Omnesia are here to tell you that you’re mistaken. Simple riffs, memorable vocalists and different themes are here to take you on a journey.

Over 14 tracks, you’re treated to something from almost every era. Sexy Party that came in next had an instant electro hook that will etch itself in the folds of your brain. Just when you’ve gotten used to a groove, Omnesia shakes it up with a song that has idiosyncratic ideas shining through. The emotive Days and Nights made me want to think and curl up with a book. It had that fleeting pop sound with a familiar chord progression that makes hope feel cool again.
Carving a genre flow
We’re hearing some singles from last year that are a welcome revisit. These are the guests the doors are wide open for, forever. Some beats remain punchy and diverse, and Omnesia always change the medium on which their art is presented. I have never been able to pin down the pattern of their songs successfully, yet Medella and M2 get more and more characteristic.
Heroes + Legends is the kind of synth vibe I’ve personally always tried to create on my keyboard. Yet the cool riff that comes in after is something I don’t have the swagger for. We’ve gone from Scorpions to Eurythmics within this album, and you might have never caught on to it. The inspiring She Life brought new meaning to groove, without being able to put a finger on the pulse of the song. This is your trip to space and back, and you got it for free.
As All The Time was something I returned to after listening to the closing track, Everything, I knew that I had a choice of listening to everything in any order I wanted. Omnesia had designed a trip unlike any other artist I have had the honour of listening to. Yet no one gave me keys to the time machine and pressed the button Future Vintage like them.
The covers they’ve added
In addition to the 14 tracks on the album, they have performed 3 covers in their unique style for this collection as well. Dirty Love is a cover of the Frank Zappa original, performed in true Omnesia style. There’s the swing, the musicality and the complex layers, all delivered like a scrumptious lasagna. The legendary Back in New York City by Genesis comes next, and you’d be surprised how well they’re able to capture the novelty of the city with their music. The duo surpass any expectations you might have of them as a unit to make this catchy, exciting music. The closing cover is Double Suicide (Mercy Killing) by Versus. The tonality and instrumental weave in this song was my favourite, bringing a thrilling close to their Future Vintage album:
