Indie rapper Nikhil Babra treads two worlds with his debut. This is a hip-hop track on the balance beam of the Punjabi new wave-and the underground rap scene that inspired the artist. With artist Shiven Rawat and a demo tape style recording, the duo have managed to give us a kaleidoscope of the past while teasing a new future for the promising scene of indie music in our country. We should have asked, for this is WHAT U WANT.
With samples from Flying Lotus (Camel) and Nosaj Thing (Get Like), Nikhil Babra establishes a peculiar flow. As much as the video shows the eyes of the tiger- a work of passion inked with the burning of the midnight oil, the focus remains on the bars delivered. Finding a groove in his native tongue, Nikhil Babra is able to coast through an announcement of arrival-along with a tangled word web that you might struggle to even repeat. In 2 parts, there are two sides to the switch-blade he carries, and one cuts deeper than the other.

While Shiven Rawat presenting the chorus and throwing in English verses-they represent the ones that have taken to the city with their dreams. Sure, their day is a shadow of what they want to do, but when the sun sets-they burn brightest. Truly a home baked video, Babra Nikhil shows his street and home-places that have inspired him to write a bright future in the inviting limelight of the underground.
They bring out the gurney to dispose commercial hip-hop that pleases the masses, drowned out with excessive bass and a**. While his feline companion makes a cameo-he also depicts posters of hip-hop legends and idols that have shaped his philosophies. You might not understand Punjabi, but to quote another contemporary:
Got things to do-eda
This shit not new-eda
No time to waste
No time to lose-eda
Not we provin that
We been on this rise
