The song is soft, relaxing and calm from the get go– with the opening piano riff laying down a solid melodic base for what’s to come; and as the song starts, it’s already taking you on a journey through its laid-back, serene sound. As the vocals kick in, we’re introduced to a beautiful, angelic voice that, with its layers in this song, contribute to an ethereal, almost otherworld listening experience while retaining the easy listenability of softer pop music.

The drums in the background too keep a steady pace with and for the rest of the ensemble, while the vocals parlay effortlessly with their rubato, shifting in and out of time gradually, adding to the relaxed nature of “Why?”. There’s quite a lot going on in the mix, but it all blends together amazingly well, with Roni leveraging the power of positive and negative harmonies quite effectively here. The chord progressions are also of special interest, with cadences and motifs that don’t take long to make themselves at home in your mind; a hallmark of good, original songwriting.
The mix elevates the experience quite nicely, with a great sense of atmosphere, keeping the energy balanced between the basses in the background, the pianos that shine a slight bit more front and center, with the main focus on the vocals– and well deserved, I will say, for the quality that the vocals and the lyrics bring to the fore on “Why?”. All this results in a nice, warm envelope of sound around the listener that could waft one away into the story that this song weaves, and it does so quite elegantly.
In conclusion, “Why?”, by Roni Amir: I’ll say, “why not?”, for the way this song is put together; there is all the incentive in the world for me to give ita second listen, and then a third, and then on and on; check out the track here!
