Hey, VX Symitar! Welcome to Sinusoidal, and congrats on your new release, “This Is Some Hard.” The production is raw yet polished, with the drums and bass really driving the energy. Was there a particular sound or feeling you wanted the beat to capture?
Yeah. I heard the track Edo G made during a set. The sound was “hard” and caught my ear. I asked him the name of the track and he said he called it “hard sh@$#”. I felt like the track was named right and the vibe of the song should be in the same vein.I wanted the “hard” vibe to flow, and having nothing to do with violence or anything like that, but raw, hard energy, and lyrics to match.
Kool Keith and Edo G each bring such distinctive voices and legacies. How did working with them shape the way you approached your own performance?
`The legacies of quality beats and bars from the two of these giants in the game just made me be sure to be on mine. Both artists have over 30 years of excellence in the craft. To work with Kool Keith, of the uncanny Ultramagnetic MC’s and one of the Godfathers of Boston Hp-Hop iEdo G was “nervous” and hieroglyphic. It was an honor and classic combination to bring their flavors in with mine.
“This Is Some Hard” is the teaser for Lightning in a Bottle. How does it set the tone for what listeners can expect from the rest of the album?
“Lightning in a Bottle” the LP is an early jump into the world of VX Symitar, merged in the beatmatic sector of Hip Hop overseen by Edo G. There are many MC’s and poets laced throughout the album, with clairvoyant beats to take B-boys and girls into the realm of authentic Hip Hop soundwaves. From Chubb Rock, Kool Keith, Akil The MC, to the unfaded SOLAR Panel MC’s and others, this album catches lightning and warps the shock into the bottle, shaped like a record. This is the second single released from “Lightning in a Bottle”, the first being “The Basement”, which was featured in the major film called “Rob Peace”. “This is some hard” will be featured in a movie called, “Number 1 with a Bullet”, to be released shortly.
The song is packed with lyrical density. Was there a line you almost cut but decided to keep because it hit too hard to let go?
Actually, there were no rewrites or problems writing this song and my end. I was guided by the rhythm of the song to speak just what it said to me. It was kind of a divinely inspired vibe.
Do you see this track as more of a statement piece or an anthem?
This track is most definitely an anthem! It can mean so much to many people in different ways. It has depth, but simplicity. That’s why this is an anthem for the times.
What’s next for VX Symitar?
Next on the plate is an album that weaves a little deeper into the rhyme realm I deal in. It will be a more personalized album with less guests than this one. I wanted to introduce myself as one with all. The next level is to submerge in the Aqualab with VX, the Symitar.
