CATDADDY, the dynamic funk duo of Aidan Paul and Leonardo Bacan, continues to dominate the music scene in 2024; blending Daft Punk’s electronic vibes, Parcels’ catchy structures, and Hall & Oates’ disco-soul essence, they effortlessly bridge retro and contemporary sounds, creating a groovy experience that resonates with both new listeners and seasoned music enthusiasts alike. Keep reading for my thoughts on their latest single, “Superpower”!
Right from the start of the song, the funk, dance-pop vibes of this song shine through quite delightfully, with the basses and the guitars taking center stage until the vocals take over; and when they do, the drums follow in quick succession to create a vibe that sits in your head quite effortlessly, making you jive to the music before you realise it.

There is much to also appreciate about the vocals; they are very expertly layered, and the chorus is absolutely infectious while retaining the somewhat subdued energy of funky pop; and in keeping with the style, it lets the listener find their own vibe as they continue to listen to the song once, then twice, and then times many more. The instrumentation also does its part in heaps, with the express energy of the strings making their appearance quite powerfully known, as they form the main driving factor for the song’s energy alongside the percussions and the vocals. It all comes together quite sweetly, with the energy and trademark feel-good factor of funky music that we’ve all grown to love.
To talk about the production on “Superpower” without touching upon the absolutely fantastic instrumentation would be me being remiss; and I’m glad to report that the instrumentation is done par excellence here; from the intro to the end of the song, the instruments never once leave the listener, as they evolve alongside the vocals and the percussion, coming together to create something quite special.
