Etherdene is an artist quickly gaining a reputation for being creative with her songwriting processes, taking cues and paying a nod to various genres and styles and incorporating them into her music, along with her own distinct flavour; and on her latest single, “Summer Dreams”, she takes on an introspective and hopeful tone– keep reading for my thoughts!
Right from the intro, the one thing that came to mind about “Summer Dreams” is the versatility in the sound design– from the gritty, retro synths that dot the whole of the track, to the rock elements that bring in their own fervour; and topped off by melodious, soulful vocals that dish out introspective questions one after another– breeding the same kind of emotion in the listener, so to speak; I sat amazed at the way this sounded. There’s so much happening, yet it all feels very well controlled, and deliberate. The attention to detail shines through on this track, and I was left a fan!

The vocals are the easy winner on “Summer Dreams”, with their processing and delivery, right down to the lyricism which is emotionally deep, and moves quite a lot of air when it comes to being expressive and engaging throughout my time listening to this song. There is much to appreciate about the singing, as well as the processing that complements the mood and the atmosphere of the song perfectly.
The production wraps up things and brings them together nicely with a detailed, intricate labyrinth of sounds that offers something new every time you’re listening to “Summer Dreams”- and that is a hallmark of great songwriting and production. Every single element shines through brilliantly, and the master is warm yet technically clinical in its outlook, highlighting the timbre of each element excellently well.
Overall, “Summer Dreams” by Etherdene; an easy two-thumbs up recommendation for its experimentation and pushing boundaries in production techniques, and bringing them together more so than palatable; in fact, deliciously. Check out the track here!
