‘Girl’s Girl’ is such a burst of sunshine kinda song! After ‘Black Joy’, Destiny Imani strikes the high vibe again with her summer single this year. And it seems like Destiny’s theme for 2024 is ‘joy’!
Destiny and her Girls are out in the sun, hanging around, playing cards, enjoying all ladies’ company, and most prominently having a ton of fun! It’s such a happy song. Interestingly one doesn’t have to be a staunch feminist to say out loud in the World that they stand with women. Women are the creators of this world. Women create in their wombs, with their voices, and they are the designers of generations. What is most amusing is, all of this does not have to be a serious business like it used to be in the past World.
A Song about Feminine Strength
The song begins with an electronic synth tune which reminded me so much of a Bollywood 90’s number, but sadly I couldn’t put a finger on that. Destiny has a mezzo-soprano voice that gives her songs a palpable sense of layered depth. But in ‘Girl’s Girls’ her vocal is refreshingly melodic. It reflects the ‘burst of sunshine’ infectiously happy mood the song carries.

“You’ve always been so sufficient, girl there’s no need to pretend, Let me hype you, give you flowers and diamonds and pearls.” The lyrics are supra-positive and have the power to transmute any bad mood. With all that is happening in the world around, us and how it affects our personal lives, this song is a hope to all women. Women fighting the games played by men when it was only to be a Play.
The video is fresh, alive, and happy. It’s a simple portrayal of the important role, the love and support a sisterhood plays in bringing back the simple joys of life. Holding hands together and holding heads high and winning life once again. I am really looking forward to Destiny Imani’s upcoming songs, EPs, and album.
