SERGIY BOLOTNY LITTLE DUTCH RHAPSODY NO.3 CAPRICCIO AMSTERDAM

Sergiy Bolotny’s “Little Dutch Rhapsody No. 3: Capriccio Amsterdam” Is a Gripping Violin Instrumental

Sergiy Bolotny is a Ukrainian-born violinist and composer. He works as Assistant Second Concertmaster with the Noord Nederlands Orkest. His education took him through music academies in Lviv, Kyiv, and Vienna, shaping his growth across major European musical cultures, from his early years in Ukraine to the concert scene in Vienna and his later career in the Netherlands. He’s not limited to performing the established repertoire. Alongside orchestral duties, chamber music, and live concerts, Bolotny also creates original works that explore how musical heritage connects to location, memory, and the expressive potential of the violin.

Sergiy Bolotny has released “Little Dutch Rhapsody No.3 Capriccio Amsterdam,” and it makes an impact immediately. The track opens with highly dramatic, almost emotionally stormy violin playing that hooks you from the first moments.

On its release day, the single also received national radio coverage on NPO Klassiek, a nice milestone that shows how much attention the piece is already getting.

Musically, Bolotny’s new work is part of his broader project of revisiting European musical classics. In this installment, he revisits Pieter Goemans’ well-known Dutch melody “Aan de Amsterdamse grachten”, and transforms it with a virtuoso approach that feels both respectful and daring.

Sonically, the recording choices feel very intentional. It’s clean. Just the violin, captured in a real space, without heavy processing or compression. As a result, you hear the physical reality of the performance: the bow on the strings, the surrounding room tone, and the way the harmonics naturally fade. That raw texture is what makes the single feel so vivid and alive.
