Riding Through Time and Grit in Overhaul’s Album “Time Flies By”

About the Artist

Glasgow-based grunge and alternative rock band Overhaul explode back onto the scene with their latest album Time Flies By, released on November 7, 2025 via TLG Rock/Virgin Music. Formed in 1997 by American singer-songwriter Andy Gallagher, the band channels the raw spirit of Nirvana, Hüsker Dü, and Soul Asylum while forging their own signature razor-edged sound—lyrics that burn with both defiance and heart.

Before the album dropped, Overhaul ignited anticipation with the lead single My Brighter Day on October 30, 2025. Inspired by a Parisian hotel view, the track pulses with nostalgia and optimism. Time Flies By continues that energy, featuring collaborations with Dan Murphy (Soul Asylum, The Scarlet Goodbye), Astrid Young (Neil Young), Jeff Worley (Jackyl), and Trace Foster, the renowned guitar tech for The Rolling Stones and Aerosmith. The record spans eleven tracks that shift between high-voltage anthems and equally grungy slow-burners, each carrying the band’s signature blend of grit and melody.

The Album

The album kicks off with I Don’t Think You Know Me, a defiant opener that charges forward with electric riffs and unapologetic grit. “I don’t think you’d care for me if you know what I thought” sets the mood instantly — defiant, unfiltered, and ready to walk its own road. Then “Bask” featuring Jackyl crashes in with thunderous energy, urging you to “shake off the shackles of the last few years of misery.” The song practically demands you throw your hands up and live in the moment. Right after, Happy Little Rocker with The Scarlet Goodbye keeps the momentum alive, built on irresistible drums and glowing melody, like catching a band live by accident and getting swept up in the sound.

Next, Whoop It Up featuring Jackyl is pure road-trip joy—loud, fun, and full of motion. Its hook, “Then we’ll whoop it up,” instantly becomes a sing-along. A Problem’s Just a Problem follows, cinematic in feel. Like the end credits of an epic film rolling by with the resolve, “Hey, there will always be a way.” The shift “Your Words” rumbles with rugged grunge textures and almost spiritual background chants, “Are you the answer to our prayers?” creating an echo.

As the record continues, Time Flies By hits right away with reflection and momentum: “I’m looking forward to the days of lookin’ back.” My Brighter Day beams with nostalgia and optimism, while I Try wrestles with life’s push and pull, “Life tries its hardest to push you around.” Each track builds emotional weight while keeping that rugged core intact.

Then, Long Ride Home pulls everything together, embodying persistence and the raw pursuit of purpose. The closer, Spanish Lilt featuring The Scarlet Goodbye and Astrid Young, slows the fire into a gentle ember. “I close my eyes… my past comes flying back” closes the record with reflection and melancholy—not an ending, but a pause, leaving you right between memory and motion.

Finally, Time Flies By cements Overhaul’s legacy, not as a band looking back, but as one pushing forward with purpose and conviction. The addition of collaborators like Dan Murphy and Astrid Young heightens the record’s intensity, while Andy Gallagher’s vocals drive its emotional core. Meanwhile, Overhaul channels the raw fire that’s kept them thriving for nearly three decades, refining their trademark sound without losing its bite. Next year, they’ll take that energy on the road alongside The Scarlet Goodbye (ft. Dan Murphy of Soul Asylum)–first across the UK and Ireland in March and then to the Philippines in October for an international run.
