Paul Green is a producer and songwriter on the rise with a layered, orchestral sound — and on his latest album, “Opus I”, he presents a collection of 7 tracks that explore themes of gravity, powerful emotion, all while being beautifully orchestrated — keep reading for my thoughts!
The opening to “Opus I” is marked by “Simple Thoughts”, a delightfully simple orchestral arrangement with brooding sounds, icy high pianos for all the charm and drama they bring in — and coupled with the delicate composition are strong basses that give the track a moving, emotive feel. Segueing into “Lullaby For Puppy”, Paul brings a gentle sound to the fore, making full use of the bright pianos and the harps in the background to create a sense of serendipity, as he transports the listener to a realm beyond with the delicate, intimate sound.

As we journey over the course of “Opus I”, we encounter tracks like “Teasing Depth” that impresses with its harpsichord arrangement, the brooding basses, and “Black Moon”, that brings a melancholic, mysteriously dark sound that casts a spell over the atmosphere, instantly turning it noir and dark — straight out of a mystery drama sequence, the energy builds up excellently to a resolution, and when it does let go, the result is satisfying to listen to indeed.
The production on “Opus I” is orchestral, with great piecewise writing for each of the elements, bringing in the perfect sound for the occasion. The arrangement and orchestration strike the nail on the head consistently throughout the album, and the energy is very well-controlled, as it ebbs and swells in just the right places, making for a moving, emotive barrage of expressiveness overall. The mixes are very well-contained and expansive in atmosphere, with the execution to match.
All in all, “Opus I” by Paul Green: A collection of tracks that are sure to get you moving, swaying to the pulse of the metronome — take a listen to it here!
