Molly Warburton’s ‘Eyes Wide Open’ Blends Dreamy Synth-Pop With Catchy Vocal Hooks

British singer-songwriter Molly Warburton brings together synth-pop, alternative pop and atmospheric production in her five-track EP ‘Eyes Wide Open‘. Hailing from Carnforth, Lancashire, Warburton has spent years performing live, appearing at festivals including Kendal Calling and The Great Escape, and touring with Lucy Spraggan. Her latest release sees her exploring personal growth, relationships and self-confidence through a collection of catchy, melodic pop songs.

What I particularly enjoyed about Eyes Wide Open is its synth production and Warburton’s vocal performance. The EP has a wonderful combination of dreamy, reverb-heavy synthesizers, darker pop textures and memorable vocal hooks. There is plenty of atmosphere across the five tracks, with the production creating a spacious sound around her voice.

In an interview with VENTS Magazine, Warburton explained that the songs were written at different points in her life, drawing from separate experiences. The idea of connecting them through a common narrative emerged only after the songs were brought together. Her experience performing live has influenced how she approaches recording. She considers how arrangements, choruses and instrumental builds will translate to audiences during performances. That emphasis on strong choruses is certainly noticeable throughout Eyes Wide Open, particularly in the way the songs build around their vocal melodies. Some of her influences such as KT Tunstall, Fleetwood Mac and Florence + The Machine have shaped her songwriting.

One of the EP’s strongest musical elements is its use of vocal harmonies and layering. Warburton’s vocals sit beautifully within the arrangements, with multiple vocal layers adding depth to the choruses. The hooks are catchy and memorable without feeling overly complicated. I particularly like how the harmonies complement the synths, creating a rich and enjoyable listening experience.

Tracks such as Hopelessly Addicted and Better Me also demonstrate how effectively the EP combines electronic production with organic instrumentation. The acoustic-sounding drums on both tracks sit comfortably alongside the synthesizers and vocal arrangements, giving the songs a more natural rhythmic feel. This balance between electronic textures and live-sounding percussion is something I especially enjoyed.

There is also something quite enjoyable about the contrast between the darker, dreamy synth-pop production and the accessible melodies. The reverberating synthesizers give the music an atmospheric character, while Warburton’s vocals remain clear and prominent throughout.

Eyes Wide Open is a thoroughly enjoyable pop EP. Its strengths lie in the polished production, excellent vocal harmonies, catchy songwriting and Warburton’s confident vocal delivery. For listeners who enjoy dreamy synth-pop, dark pop and melodic alternative pop, Molly Warburton’s latest EP is certainly worth a spin.
