Michelle Bond, who performs as Michellar, is a San Francisco–based creative working across visuals, songwriting, and recording. She’s been writing music since she was 15, but for about 40 years, songwriting took a backseat while she focused on other passions like art and garden design. Then, in 2023, something shifted. When she was accepted as an exhibiting artist at the De Young Museum for the Open Exhibition, the spark came back, and her songwriting life returned. Now she sings her songs at weekly neighborhood open mics, and as she steps into production and recording, she’s fully found her “home,” which is songwriting. Her music carries influences from the artists she grew up with and loves, and critics have noticed her consistency and range, moving from heartfelt ballads to more danceable anthems while keeping the same core, real emotion, vulnerability, and sincerity.
Michellar’s new single, “Do We Love Us,” opens with upbeat, amazing synth work that immediately puts you in a sweet, light mood. It’s an alt-pop track with easy-on-the-ears beats, the kind that feel effortlessly catchy. On top of that, her vocals are very sweet and enjoyable, and they sit so naturally in the mix.
