Right from the start, Starve pulls you in with beautiful arrangement and strings. The arrangement feels cinematic, almost like something out of a movie. MayaAgnes’s vocals are just brilliant soaring and vulnerable at once. You can hear her voice get stronger as the song moves along, and the harmonic layering is tight. It’s emotional but not overly dramatic. If you love artists like Adele or Hozier, you’ll feel at home here.

The soul and R&B touches come through in both the melody and the harmonies and, lifting the track and making each chorus punchy and memorable. Love the bluesy guitar solo courtesy of Dave Hjin comes in at just the right moment set to the epic orchestral arrangement and MayaAgnes’s towering vocals. The mix is clear and full, the production by Matt MacLeod lets every element shine. The vocals are a highlight here.

“Starve” is uplifting and empowering. MayaAgnes has made a track that stands up for resilience and self-love, and it stays with you long after it’s over. The song’s biggest strength is how it shines a light on healing, making every word and note count.
