‘Made You Up’ by Tamara Kramar: a Moving Indie-Folk Track with a Dynamic Soundscape

‘Made You Up’ by Tamara Kramar is a genre-blending alternative, indie-folk track with an emotionally charged, dynamic soundscape. Its lyrics describe the aftermath of a toxic relationship that leaves the narrator feeling seemingly uprooted. This feeling makes them question if the relationship they were in was “..made up…”.

‘Made You Up’: Reflective and Powerful

The instrumental soundscape on the track takes its listeners on trippy journey. This while the narrator reflects on their strong emotions, moving through them while the sound’s landscape keeps the listener on their toes. It moves from bare-bones acapella, to a simple piano-led movement that introduces a shuffling percussion.

By its mid-section, ‘Made You Up’ introduces flowing synths that add some depth to the song’s deep emotionality. These emotions build concurrently with song’s lyrics, which are lines that reflect on the toxic relationship gone past.

The lines take on an almost dream-y tone, as the song opens with the narrator in a ponder. “…Not sure which parts of you were real…maybe I made you up…”. They then go on to admit that they were being delusional in hindsight.

“…When everyone said it was self-disrespect,

I just closed my eyes and dived deep into my own mind…

Delusion made it hard to tell what was right….”.

The most telling lines in the song come in-lieu of the song’s refrain, where the instrumentations slows to hit the words home. The narrator seems moved to realisation while being disappointed to be there.

“…When I lean into you, I fall right through into a room.

I thought I knew dimension,

I heard you mention that it’d be me and you.

But I guess I made that up.

I made you up…”.

In it’s poetic description of heartbreak and betrayal, ‘Made You Up’ by Tamara Kramar moves its listener in deep ways. Its dynamic soundscape and poignant lines charge its mood with emotions that feel numb but visceral at the same time.

Its powerful in its moving simplicity.
