Olla – Monte Carlo | A French Delicacy

Monaco-based singer-songwriter and artist, Olla writes a love letter to Monte Carlo with her debut release of the same name. The French-English song is a shimmering brand of soul pop with modern classical antiquities. Crafted with fine details and infinite skill, the song is a portrait of sophistication and elegance.

Using a combination of descriptive and confessional lyricism, the artist celebrates the place that inspired and elevated her passion as a musician. It spouts with a growing fondness, curating the appeal of Monte Carlo as it lives in the mind of the artist. She speaks of it as a lover speaks of his love. Colored with French blue pastels and washed with a sunny disposition, Olla reveals the essence of the place in just under four minutes!

First performed in 2018, the song received high acclaim in Monaco, calling on Olla to perform it in lavish private events and even in the Monaco Charity Film Festival and Miss Cannes in Parc du Cap.

The track is chic and contemporary, vocally dressed with a refreshing French charm. And with the glinting acoustics casting an aurum glow, it all comes together like a bright spring morning.

The song is an ingenious love letter to Monte Carlo. You use sultry and romantic palettes to capture your adoration of it. Please tell us a little about how the place shaped you as an artist.

For me, Monte-Carlo is a perfect combination of aesthetics, elegancy and classiness. It definitely shaped my sound and my music, and you will always be able to catch those features in my songs.

There’s a pronounced use of classical Latin styles and French acoustics. Despite being minimalist, the track is rich in its appeal and versatile in its composition. How would you describe your musical stylisation and what do you want your audience to take away from your work?

All those small details, whether it’s a classical instrument or using French acoustics, help the listeners ‘travel’ to the place I sing about. I believe that this song will make a lot of people who has never been to Monte-Carlo finally visit it. For those people who had a chance to come here, this song will be some sort of ‘portal’. So wherever you are , you can always turn on the song and just ‘transport yourself’ to Monte-Carlo at least for a few minutes.

Who are some of the artists you look up to and inspire your work and why?

The first names that come to my mind are Nathalie Cole, Bruno Mars and Michael Buble. Those people are the definition of ‘artists’. This is the top echelon and the quality standard for me.

What is your creative process like? What themes and concepts do you find yourself gravitating to?

When I came up with an idea for a song, my team and I meet each other at the studio, and we jam. We can spend hours and hours writing, composing, looking for the relevant harmonies, instruments and sounds.

I want my listeners to feel delighted and light-hearted when they listen to my music. So I am gravitating to the ideas that produce excitement, positivity and happiness.

What were some of the challenges you encountered as a musician, especially a woman musician and what advice would you give to other young and aspiring musicians?

I believe every woman faces a certain fork in the road at some point of their life. Are you a mother, or a wife? Do you prioritize your passion and career over your family and personal life? These are the questions that have no right answers, as we are all different and might want different things from life.
I have experienced a struggle like that, and this is why I am starting my path later than I initially wanted to. A piece of advice would be to always follow your inner voice, to listen to yourself and to surround yourself with people who will support your growth. If you want to be happy you need to make decisions based on love, and not to give in to the fear of losing something or someone else, especially if you are a woman.

The track is available on Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, and Amazon Music!
